Obama’s Disclosure Order Sparks Spats on Hill

The draft order issued by the White House to force government contractors to reveal their political donations has set off fights in Congress. In recent weeks, Republicans have sought to tack amendments on to larger bills that would dump the idea, while Democrats have offered amendments to support it, The Hill reports.

The Republican effort could slow appropriations and authorization bills later this year, because the Democratic-controlled Senate will likely oppose them. The White House is still reviewing the draft order.

“The battle is really taking place in the Senate,” said Craig Holman, government affairs lobbyist for Public Citizen, which supports the order. “I believe we can stop this legislative drive in the Senate, and if not there, in conference committee later on. We stand no chance in the House.”
