Another University Wants Obama Museum and Library

The University of Illinois at Chicago wants to be the home of President Barack Obama's future library and museum, The Chicago Tribune reports.

The school joins a crowded field of educational institutions that have already expressed interest in housing the papers and memorabilia of the nation's 44th president.

Those include the University of Hawaii, Chicago State University, and the University of Chicago.

University of Illinois at Chicago Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares said in a statement that the school's desire for the project "follows the recommendation of a task force of deans, administrators, and outside advisers."

The group "agreed that UIC's diversity, research, outreach, and central location make it uniquely appropriate for the library and museum honoring President Obama's legacy."

The newspaper says some advocates want the library to be built on the South Side, the birthplace of Obama's political career. Others want it in Hawaii, his birthplace.

The White House has not commented on the project.
