Obama: ‘In 1980s, I Would Be Considered Moderate Republican’

By    |   Friday, 14 December 2012 11:05 AM EST

Many Republicans view President Barack Obama as extremely liberal, but he doesn’t see it that way.

"The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I have back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican," he told Miami’s local Univision station, The Hill reports.

Obama thinks the country as a whole perceives him as mainstream, and he doesn’t see the government as the answer to every problem. But, "I believe in a tax system that is fair," he said.

"I think that we should make sure that we're helping young people go to school. We should make sure that our government is building good roads and bridges and hospitals and airports so that we have a good infrastructure.”
