Poll: Obama Top Pick to Protect Against Alien Invasion

He agreed to sweeping defense cuts but Americans still think President Barack Obama defend against an alien invasion better than Mitt Romney, according to a poll.

In an out-of-this-world survey ahead of its new cable television documentary series "Chasing UFOs," the National Geographic Channel polled 1,114 adults across the United States last month and asked them the crucial question: Who could better handle the aliens when they come?

Obama was favored over Republican hopeful Romney by 65 percent. Of those polled, 36 percent of respondents said they were certain that unidentified flying objects exist and 11 percent were confident they had spotted a UFO.

They join former Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, who in a 2007 Democratic presidential debate, claimed that he had seen a UFO — and was moving his campaign office to Roswell, N.M.

National Geographic Channel said the results of survey dovetailed with the research underpinning "Chasing UFOs." In the series, which debuts Friday, Texas and Colorado residents describe their encounters with mysterious flying objects.
