Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a potential Republican presidential contender, will be the keynote speaker for the National Rifle Association’s national convention this weekend in Pittsburgh. The meeting is expected to draw more than 65,000 people from all over the country, giving the Steel City an economic shot of adrenaline,
WTAE-TV Channel 4 in Pittsburgh reported.
"Pittsburgh is going to experience a great economic boom, and this is something we are very proud and happy to bring to the city,” said Rachel Parsons, an NRA spokeswoman. “Hotels are booked 20 miles outside of the city.”
With guests expected to spend more than $23 million in the city, restaurants and other area businesses are boosting the number staff on hand for the convention.
"It's a great problem to have, but we love it," said Mike Hamwey, of Lidia's in the Strip District. "A lot of my staff are NRA members. We always gear up for these big events."
