NJ Storm Victims Given Until Friday to Vote

By    |   Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:14 PM EST

Residents of New Jersey displaced by Hurricane Sandy will be given until 5 p.m. Friday to vote in Tuesday’s election, as long as they requested a ballot by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

State election officials made the decision as thousands of requests poured into offices during the day today, reported Fox News.

"It has become apparent that the County Clerks are receiving applications at a rate that outpaces their capacity to process them without an extension of the current schedule," said Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who is also Secretary of State in New Jersey.

Email ballots have been made available to people willing to risk their ballots not being private, and only to voters who have been displaced by the storm.

Voters had been given the option of email or fax vote, or to fill out a provisional ballot at any polling place they can make it to, according to Guadagno.
