Poll: Most Americans Disagree With Trump on NFL Protests

Sixty-eight percent of Americans believe President Donald Trump's call to fire NFL players who protest during the national anthem is inappropriate, compared to 27 percent are in favor of it, a new USA Today/Suffolk University poll reveals.

Here are the other highlights from the poll:

  • 51 percent said the players' protests are appropriate, while 42 percent disagree
  • About 80 percent of Republicans call the protests inappropriate, while nearly the same percentage of Democrats call them appropriate.
  • 56 percent said the protests will have no impact on whether they attend an NFL game on television.
  • 33 percent said the protests make them less likely to attend and 7 percent said the protests make them more likely to watch.

One thousand registered voters were polled. The survey has a margin of error of  3 percentage points.
