NYC Bill Would Require More English on Signs

New York City Republican Councilmen Dan Halloran and Peter Koo are sponsoring a bill that would require some English wording on every sign posted in the Big Apple.

Under the bill, shop owners would have four years to ensure that their signs at least include their store names and addresses in English, according to the New York Post. New signs would be required to contain 60 percent of their wording in English.

Halloran frames the initiative as being beneficial to shop owners. Including English on signs would bring in a more diverse clientele and make it easier for emergency responders to find locations, he said.
