New Hampshire’s recently formed task force on reopening the state’s economy is set for its first meeting on Wednesday to discuss an end to the lockdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
“This is not an open-close situation,” Gov. Chris Sununu said at a press conference on Tuesday announcing the task force, according to local ABC affiliate WMUR. “This is not something we are coming out of tomorrow or even next week, frankly. We’ve always said public health has to be preeminent, has to be one of the key factors that we are looking at when we take any steps.”
The state’s stay-at-home order is set to end on May 4, but the governor said that people in New Hampshire should expect an announcement about the order sometime this week or early next week.
"We're looking at the different options for that stay-at-home order," Sununu said. "Will it just continue as it is for an indefinite amount of time? No, we hope not. We may, again, take a phased approach, whether geographically or different demographics of our population that we may have to keep that stay-at-home order in place for."
The state’s task force includes Taylor Caswell, commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs, the governor’s policy director DJ Bettencourt, state Sens. Kevin Cavanaugh, Shannon Chandley, Sharon Carson and Bob Giuda; and state Reps. Ed Butler, Mel Meyler, Bill Marsh, and Tim Lang, among other officials from the business, health, law enforcement, and travel sectors.
