Rowdy college students in the small town of Keene, New Hampshire, transformed a pumpkin festival into a riot, The Keene Sentinel reported.

Young people converged around the streets near Keene State College seeking confrontation with anti-riot police who were trying to protect the Pumpkin Festival.

"It's wicked. It's just like a rush. You're revolting from the cops," said Steven French, 18. "It's a blast to do things that you're not supposed to do," the Sentinel reported.

Youths set fires, vandalized street signs, threw bottles, and tried to overturn vehicles on the college campus. Dozens of rioters were arrested, CNN reported.

Not everyone was in a mood to riot. Cecelee Young, a Keene State freshman said, "I feel really disrespected" by the behavior of the disorderly students and their guests. "It's just really rude," the Sentinel reported.

Anne Huot, Keene State president, issued a statement saying she was "saddened and disheartened at the events surrounding this year's Keene Pumpkin Festival. Despite the concerted efforts of organizers, city officials, police, and Keene State College, there continued to be disruptive behavior at parties in multiple locations around the city, injuries, and property damage."

She added, "We are mindful that Keene State students played a part in this behavior and we intend to hold those individuals accountable for their actions. We deplore the actions of those whose only purpose was to cause mayhem. And we are grateful for the swift response of law enforcement and first responders who worked to minimize injuries and damage," according to the Sentinel.

"I'm definitely not proud to be a KSC student after seeing this kind of behavior," said Alex Karabakakis. "KSC is known to have pretty wild parties going on around where the police were yesterday, but I've never seen actual riot lines in Keene before," the Los Angeles Times reported.
