Nothing like ruining a mother's day just before Mother's Day.
Although a mother's work is never done, the consumer website
Insure.com, has managed to put a price tag on the value of the work typical mothers do, taking into account child care, summer planning, homework and other services.
Moms can be replaced for $61,436 a year, although that price tag does not include a mother's salary for working outside the home. It also would require a family to hire a variety of professionals like cook, chauffeur, party planner, teacher, social worker and accountant.
The biggest cost is actual child care, which runs about $20,000 a year. Surprisingly, planning for summer activities ($8,726) ranks as more expensive than cooking daily ($6,938) and helping with homework ($7,140). And no family can do without a good spy to stay on top of the children's mischief. A private investigator costs $791 per year.
