HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Some Montanans have had enough of medical marijuana, saying their state's image as a rugged cowboy frontier is being replaced by a fast-growing pot culture.
House Speaker Mike Milburn is a former Air Force pilot and rancher who is quickly pushing outright repeal because he argues it is undermining the fabric of the state. Montana would be the first state to repeal a medical marijuana law.
But marijuana advocates and smokers are telling lawmakers they should pass strict regulations rather than undermine the will of the voters who passed the initiative in 2004.
The argument resonates with leading Senate Republicans who are hashing out a bill that makes it harder to get a card and strictly regulates who grows pot with new fees levied against the industry.
