Michelle Obama To Be 'Dancing Queen' at '50 and Fabulous' Bash

By    |   Thursday, 26 December 2013 06:11 PM EST

First lady Michelle Obama will be the "Dancing Queen" at her rocking White House birthday bash next month, the Chicago Tribune reported exclusively Thursday.

The White House has been sending out email invitations dubbed "Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert," for the Jan. 18 gala, held a day after she celebrates turning "50 and fabulous," a phrase Obama coined for the big day, sources told the Tribune.

Guests are being told to wear comfortable shoes, eat before you come and practice your dance moves. However, details on celebrities who will perform remain top secret, the Tribune reports.

The birthday dancing theme came up Dec. 16, when Obama hinted to a little girl at a children's hospital that the celebration "might involve some dancing… a little Dougie," referring to a hip-hop dance she performed on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" in a spoof called "The Evolution of Mom Dancing."

In that appearance Fallon, dressed in drag, partnered with Obama on the dance floor to promote "Let's Move," the first lady's campaign to end childhood obesity.

Democrat strategist Donna Brazile, who did receive an invite, said the party could be just like one held in the East Room after the 2013 inauguration.

The first lady, wearing a red gown by designer Jason Wu, was drinking a sparkling beverage and waiting for the president to return to the White House when singer Janelle Monae was about to perform, Brazile recalled.

She "just lit up like a spark was inside her. We cleared the tables and we all just started dancing. We danced the night away. That's Michelle. She's spontaneous, she's energetic, she gets the moment and appreciates every second she is surrounded with friends and family," she said.

"That girl can dance. That woman can still shake a tail feather."
