Rep. Michele Bachmann has been given a 24-hour security detail based on a threat from the Islamic State (ISIS),
Politico reports.
The website says that "multiple law enforcement officials" confirmed a recent online threat against the Minnesota Republican, who has repeatedly called on President Barack Obama to declare war on the group that has declared a state in large portions of Syria and Iraq currently under its control.
The U.S. Capitol Police's Dignitary Protection Division will guard Bachmann until she leaves office in January.
Bachmann has been critical not only of ISIS but of Islam in general, Politico noted.
"I believe if you have an evil of an order of this magnitude, you take it seriously," Bachmann told the conservative Value Voters Summit in September. "You declare war on it, you don't dance around it. Just like the Islamic State has declared war on the United States of America."
Bachmann also has introduced a bill to revoke the U.S. citizenship of anyone from this country who joins ISIS. More than 100 Americans are thought to have traveled to Syria to join the group, and two have been killed in fighting.
