A businessman who is a Marine and employs veterans says that there will be at least one armed veteran at his office from now on.
"While my staff works,
at least one of my veterans will be armed and providing over-watch and security while the day's work is done," Nick Baucom, who owns the Washington, D.C.-area Two Marines Moving, said in a statement,
The Hill is reporting.
Baucom's announcement comes after four Marines and one sailor were killed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at a recruitment center by a Kuwaiti-born Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez. Military members are not allowed to be armed at recruitment centers under federal law.
"My employees, all current or former military, will be able to defend themselves should the need arise," he said.
Baucom said that the company's policy stands in contrast to the lack of change in policy for recruitment centers around the country.
"Mr. President ... can you say the same for your Marines? I challenge you to use your executive power, change the law, and allow those that protect us to protect themselves!" he wrote.
The former Marine, who fought in Iraq, told The Hill that "it's my elective to have a gun in my home or office. We are a hard target at Two Marines Moving."
Baucom said there will only be an armed veteran at the company's office in Virginia, not while on moving jobs.
