Limbaugh Takes on Republicans Who Attacked Him Over Romney

By    |   Tuesday, 20 November 2012 10:06 AM EST

Talk radio king Rush Limbaugh is taking umbrage at attacks from some Republicans that his criticism of Mitt Romney hurt the Republican in his race against President Barack Obama.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, GOP strategist Mike Murphy said the primaries were “driving the Republican brand right now to disaster” and that Republicans need to adopt a view of the country “that’s not right out of Rush Limbaugh’s dream journal,” Politico reports.

Limbaugh responded on the air Monday. “What, folks, did I or any of you have to do with the Republican primary?” he said. “Did not Murphy get the candidate he wanted? All these consultants, do you realize they get rich no matter who wins or loses? Little-known secret.”

The conservative commentator ridiculed Murphy for his lack of respect for the party’s right wing. “[In] the Republican primary, as far as he’s concerned, there were too many conservatives in it saying too many stupid things,” Limbaugh said. “We need to get rid of conservatism, is what is he’s saying.”

Another GOP strategist, Steve Schmidt, hit Limbaugh at a conference last week, saying his “white, 65-plus, and rural” audience is “not what the country looks like anymore” and that Limbaugh offers a message of “total ludicrous nonsense.”

Schmidt’s target wasn’t impressed “Ok, so you people are all white, 65 and over, and you live in the sticks. And you are screwing up the Republican Party, because you are believing what I say. This is their explanation for having lost,” Limbaugh said.
