Leaks Could Cost Lives, Special Ops Chief Says

By    |   Thursday, 26 July 2012 09:24 AM EDT

National security leaks threaten the lives of Americans and action to clamp down on them needs to be taken, a Special Ops chief said, according to Fox News.

The head of the Special Operations Command, Admiral William McRaven, said President Barack Obama and Capitol Hill take the leaks “very seriously” and "we need to do the best we can to clamp down because sooner or later it is going to cost people their lives or it is going to cost us our national security," Fox News reported.

McRaven made his remarks at the Aspen Security Forum on Wednesday, which brings together the nation's top minds on national security. Earlier this week Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney accused President Barack Obama of leaking classified details about the U.S. military raid that killed Osama bin Laden for political gain.

Obama vehemently has rejected the notion that his administration has leaked classified information. At a White House news conference in June, he called such allegations "offensive."

McRaven said Obama was a "fantastic" commander in chief, Fox News reported, and the admiral also praised Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.
