CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) — The daughter of the longest-living American to serve in World War I says her father should lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington.
Susannah Buckles Flanagan issued a statement Saturday from her home in Charles Town, W.Va., saying it is absolutely appropriate for Frank Buckles to be honored in such a way. Buckles died Feb. 27 at the age of 110.
Since then, politicians have been at odds over how to best honor Buckles and the 4.7 million other Americans who served during World War I.
West Virginia's two Democratic senators are seeking approval to use the Rotunda to honor Buckles.
