Home Depot's Langone Apologizes for Hitler Comments

Ken Langone, co-founder of Home Depot Inc., apologized for comments he made comparing the bashing of the rich in America to language Adolf Hitler used in Nazi Germany.

"My remarks were intended to discourage pitting one group against another group in a society," Langone said in a statement late Tuesday, Politico reported.

"If my choice of words was inappropriate — and they well may have been that — I extend my profound apologies to anyone and everyone who I may have offended," he added.

Langone said in an interview with Politico earlier on Tuesday that the way some talk about the rich in America is similar to rhetoric used by Hitler.

"If you go back to 1933, with different words, this is what Hitler was saying in Germany," he said. "You don't survive as a society if you encourage and thrive on envy or jealousy."

The comments ignited harsh criticism from the left against the Home Depot co-founder, leading some to say that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should return political donations he received from Langone.
