White House counselor Kellyanne Conway slammed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for his call for a resolution condemning President Donald Trump for the clearing away of protesters ahead of his appearance at the historic St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.

"It's amazing the senior senator from New York won't look at his own backyard," Conway told Fox News' Harris Faulkner. "You have Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo criticizing the NYPD. Everybody has seen what's going on, to see the most densely populated city fall victim to violence and looting and rioting and not peaceful protesting necessarily."

Conway pointed out that the family of George Floyd, the man whose killing has sparked protests nationwide and internationally, has called for peaceful protests even though Floyd was "murdered in cold blood for all to see."

Nobody wants the violence that is occurring, said Conway, as many businesses that were closed because of coronavirus were about to reopen.

"They invested money in new structures, new social distancing policies to get their feet back on the ground at these restaurants and these mom and pop stores, only to have them destroyed," said Conway. "Chuck Schumer needs to look no further than his own New York and give some help to that city."

Conway also defended Trump from the criticism of Bishop Mariann Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, who slammed Trump for using her church as a backdrop and the Bible as a prop.

"The president just signed an order for religious liberty," she said. "That follows the president addressing the United Nations General Assembly on the matter of religious liberty, saying, 'Stop persecuting people based on their faith,' ... that is not her church, her Bible. Why the president felt compelled to walk there, why he held that Bible up, that is a symbol to everyone that we will not allow arsonists and anarchists that demean the memory of those that lost their lives in the name of their respective faith and religions. We won't allow them to dissuade us from practicing our religion."
