Katie Couric’s daytime talk show “Katie” is ending, according to Walt Disney Co.’s ABC, after the host’s decision to begin producing news reports for Yahoo! Inc.
“Katie” will end in June after completing the program’s second season, Couric and Disney-ABC Domestic Television, the show’s distributor, said today in an e-mailed statement.
Couric, who once earned as much as $15 million a year anchoring the “CBS Evening News,” announced last month that she’s joining Yahoo as the Web portal’s global anchor. To move to Yahoo, ABC let Couric out of an agreement to produce segments exclusively for its network news division, people said last month. Couric wanted to continue hosting “Katie,” they said at the time.
Disney, based in Burbank, California, gained 1.1 percent to $72.97 today in New York. The stock has climbed 47 percent this year, compared with a 27 percent increase for the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.
