Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. says he and his estranged wife Sandi Jackson are in the poor house.
"We're about $1.8 million in debt. The largest asset that we presently have to satisfy that obligation is the [house] in Washington. And it has to be disposed of," Jackson said following a divorce hearing, the Chicago Tribune reports.
But Sandi Jackson's lawyer Chandra Walker Holloway charged that Jesse's strategy is to "stall" the divorce so his wife feels the need to settle or accept terms are not "fair and reasonable," the Tribune reports.
The Jacksons served time in federal prison after the former Illinois congressman used campaign funds for vacations, furs and other goods and his wife failed to declare much of it on her taxes, according to The Tribune.
