Jeh Johnson: Duncan Hunter Shouldn't Be Scaring Public on ISIS

By    |   Wednesday, 08 October 2014 07:59 PM EDT

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says Rep. Duncan Hunter shouldn't be needlessly scaring the public by repeating rumors that Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists have been caught crossing the Mexican border.

Appearing on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" Wednesday, Johnson said there is "no credible specific evidence" to verify the California Republican's claim that at least 10 ISIS members had been apprehended trying to cross the border.

"What I'd say to public officials is, we need to be responsible in what we say in passing on speculation, rumor, to not unduly cause fear and anxiety in the American public," Johnson said.
