For a person who once vowed to never argue politics on Twitter,
actor James Woods is becoming a conservatives' favorite on the site for his posts against President Barack Obama and liberal causes.
Woods
uses his account on almost a daily basis to share his views, and has said that he doesn't expect to work in Hollywood again because of his opinions,
reports The Daily Beast.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who has starred in films such as "Once Upon a Time in America" and who played former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in Oliver Stone's "Salvador," has turned his talents to Twitter, where he famously tweeted the phrase "scratch a liberal, find a fascist every time" back in April.
On Twitter, the movie star has nearly 199,000 followers and takes to social media almost daily in his recast role as Obama's biggest heckler.
“He’s the nicest guy you’ll ever meet, but his politics are, apparently, bats---t crazy," said Mother Jones Engagement Editor Ben Dreyfuss, who says his family, including actor Richard Dreyfuss, is close to Woods.
It's not just Obama that draws Woods' ire. He also shares conservative, viral memes and several theories on subjects like the Internal Revenue scandal, the terror attacks in Benghazi and Obamacare, and he prefers to keep his views online. His publicist told The Daily Beast that Woods plans to "express himself through Twitter and leave it at that."
And some of those views are seen as extreme and sometimes inflammatory. He used the term"towel-heads" after the 9/11 attacks, has called the Rev. Al Sharpton a "race pimp" and recently called him
a "pig" and referred to New York Mayor
Bill de Blasio as a "phony, disgusting hypocrite."
And he uses even stronger words against Obama, who he called a
"true abomination" after World War II veterans were kept from entering the war's national memorial during the 2013 government shutdown.
Some are drawing comparisons between Woods' Twitter role and his role of an extremist in the 2013 film "White House Down," in which he hates a liberal black president.
His tweets are also seen as being more aggressive than those of other Hollywood conservatives like Jerry Bruckheimer and Bruce Willis, and he has over the years honed his reputation as being a person who does not mince words.
"Woods has been a prolific, highly articulate, and politically incorrect conservative voice,"
said The Daily Caller. And
Twitchy, a Twitter curation site that was founded by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, often highlights Woods' tweets, calling him a"fierce fighter for the truth regarding the tragedy in Benghazi."
Woods "refuses to toe the Hollyweird line," Twitchy managing editor Lori Ziganto told The Daily Beast."Woods uses Twitter to speak actual truth to power; conservatives rightly can’t get enough of this rare Hollywood bravery. Woods understands the power of Twitter."
