Tuesday, 29 November 2011 01:10 PM EST

Michael Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, has been sentenced by a California judge to four years in prison for his role in the singer's death.

Three weeks ago, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death.

Prosecutors argured Murray recklessly administered the surgical anesthetic propofol to help Jackson sleep, did not monitoring its use properly, which eventually led to the singer's death.

Murray gave propofol nearly every night to the singer in the two months leading up to Jackson's death on June 25, 2009.
