Issa Sets Up Website for Postal Service Fixes

By    |   Thursday, 01 September 2011 03:08 PM EDT

California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has set up a website to highlight Republican attempts to solve the U.S. Postal Service’s problems. He co-sponsored a bill with Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., to fix the woes, The Hill reports.

SavingThePostalService.com outlines the financial problems plaguing the agency, which lost about $3 billion in the last quarter and is headed for a second straight year with a deficit of at least $8 billion.

The website says the Issa-Ross bill would save an estimated $3 billion a year by giving the Postal Service authority to drop Saturday delivery. It also would phase out loopholes and special deals that allow some Postal Service customers to pay less than the actual cost of delivery.
