Fifty-three percent of Americans say the fight against ISIS is going well, compared to 43 percent who disagree, a new CBS News poll reveals.
Here are the survey highlights:
- 9 percent of those polled believe the U.S. battle with ISIS is going "very well," 44 percent say "somewhat well," 25 percent believe "somewhat badly," and 18 percent say "very badly."
- 72 percent of Republicans say it is going well, compared to only 16 percent who felt that way in September.
- 39 percent of all those polled are confident President Donald Trump can handle the situation in Syria, while 59 percent say they are uneasy.
- 46 percent say they are confident in Trump's ability as commander-in-chief while 52 percent say they are either "not too confident" or "not at all confident."
- 36 percent say Trump is making America's image in the world stronger, while 46 percent say he is making it weaker.
The positive views on the fight against ISIS are now at their highest levels since the poll began measuring them in 2014, CBS News reported.
This poll was conducted by telephone April 21-24, 2017 among a random sample of 1,214 adults nationwide. The margin of error is plus or minute three percentage points.
