Tucker Carlson: ISIS Conflict Name as 'Nonsensical' as Operation

The Pentagon finally has named America's conflict with the Islamic State (ISIS). But the name, Operation Inherent Resolve, isn't getting rave reviews from everyone.

"It's the perfect name because it's nonsensical," Fox News' Tucker Carlson said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Special Report."

"You can't have 'inherent resolve,'" Carlson said. "Resolve is a product of will. It's not something you're born with; it's something you decide to do."

That makes it the perfect title, Carlson said, because the operation's goals are "utterly unclear, and the means of achieving those goals are even muddier."

The enemy hasn't been defined, he said, and now America's closest Muslim ally, Turkey, refuses to get on board.

"If you can't pull that off, it's a bad sign," Carlson said.

Fortune magazine's Nina Easton agreed.

"I'm convinced Inherent Resolve was coined by someone like Jon Stewart of 'The Daily Show' to make fun of this administration," Easton said.

It reminds people of the "red line" Obama warned Syrian President Bashar Assad not to cross or the fact that no troops were left in Iraq and won't be left in Afghanistan, she said.

"Lots of resolve in this administration's foreign policy," Easton said.
