Rep. Ros-Lehtinen: 'Feckless' Obama Leaves Nation Adrift

Friday, 07 March 2014 05:54 PM EST

The United States is at the mercy of a "feckless president" who rules with no direction, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida says.

"We don't have a direction. So [Congress will] keep doing what we can," Ros-Lehtinen told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"We have a bill that's going to be up imposing more economic sanctions and we'll do what we can. But then it's up to the president ultimately, sadly."

Story continues below video.

Ros-Lehtinen, former chair of the House Subcommittee on Middle East Foreign Affairs, believes Obama has not kept on top of Russian President Vladimir Putin's ongoing military agressions.

"This administration has basically ignored the continued occupation of Georgian territory in defiance [of] a mutual cease fire agreement signed nearly six years ago," he said.

"What we're seeing is the utter failure of the president's foreign policy built on yielding to Russian concerns on a host of important issues ... and wishing and hoping and praying that they would work with us on the president's signature issue, which was nuclear nonproliferation.

"Yet here we are five years later and Russian fingerprints are all over this rapidly deteriorating situation that we face across the world, whether it's Iran, whether it's Syria, or now Ukraine and yes there may be fewer nuclear weapons in the world now than five years ago, but Iran ain't done yet."
