Huckabee: 'Angry, Bitter' Chelsea Handler Jealous of My Daughter

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says he knows why talk show host Chelsea Handler has mean things to say about his daughter, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders: She's jealous.

"The things that Chelsea Handler said were vile and vulgar," Huckabee told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday. 

"I'm surprised there were no women on the left who had the decency to call her out for this."

Handler, on her Netflix show Friday, interrupted her guest to call Sanders names and to ridicule her clothing and use of makeup, Fox News reported. 

"I know you are probably expecting me to be very angry about it," Huckabee said. "Truthfully, when I read what she said and watched it, I felt sorry for her. I feel sad for Chelsea Handler. She seems like a very angry and bitter person."

Huckabee, 62, added that Handler, at 42, is "almost as old as me," and is at the "part of her life [where] she needs to start mellowing out," but instead, she "seems to be enraged."

"She boasts about the two abortions she had at 16," said Huckabee. "In many ways, she is jealous of my daughter. My daughter has a husband who loves her and is wonderful to her. My daughter has three delightful children. She is a happy, balanced person. She enjoys life. She is a pretty straight-laced person. Goes to church and lives a life Chelsea Handler has never known."

Huckabee continued that he thinks there is something inside Handler that says "'gee, I have missed out on a lot. I could be raising children, but I aborted them.'"

He said he knows his words sound "harsh," but he "truly" feels "sorry for her."

"I feel she lashes out at a life that she just doesn't understand and has never been able to embrace," said Huckabee.

"That's sad. No reason to be angry at Chelsea. You know, pray for her that she will find some peace because she doesn't have it right now. It's pretty evident by the tone of voice that she is an angry, bitter, and frankly lonely person."
