Repubs Urge Supreme Court to Dump Climate Case

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., Rep. Ed Whitfield, R-Ky., and James Inhofe, R-Okla., have offered an amicus brief in the prominent American Electric Power v. Connecticut case,  to keep utilities from facing requirements to cut their greenhouse gas emissions, Politico reports.

“Courts are not equipped to make judgments about the appropriate emissions standards for utilities located throughout the country,” the lawmakers write. “Judicial establishment of such standards would violate decades of Supreme Court precedent and unconstitutionally interfere with congressional and executive branch efforts to address climate change-related matters.”

Attorneys for the utilities are arguing that such nuisance lawsuits are not the way to tackle global warming; instead, legislation is what's needed.
