The House is set to approve legislation that will restrict funds for the military intervention in Libya, heightening the disagreement with the White House over war powers, reports The Hill. http://thehill.com/homenews/house/168169-boehner-defends-libya-moves-as-clinton-rallies-dems
The vote will include two Libya-related measures, including a provision that will end funding for aggressive military activities that has garnered support from the GOP in addition to many Democrats, according to aids in both camps.
Speaker Boehner supported the House’s position over Obama’s Libya policy, criticizing his foreign policy strategy and the White House’s lack of communication with Congress on the issue.
“This is primarily a fight between the Congress and the president over his unwillingness to consult with us before making this decision,” Boehner said.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has continued to stand with the president on the issue, saying Obama “has the latitude to do what he is doing as long as there are no boots on the ground.” She recognized that there are “legitimate concerns in both parties” about the scope of the War Powers Resolution.
