Hospital: Wounded Giffords in 'Good Condition'

WASHINGTON – Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, shot in the head during a deadly Arizona shooting rampage, continues to improve and has been upgraded to "good" condition, according to the hospital treating her.

"This evening, her doctors upgraded her condition from serious to good," Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center said in a statement late Tuesday.

Giffords, 40, was transferred to the Texas facility on January 21 after originally being treated a hospital in Tucson in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Hospital officials said a news conference updating the public about her recovery has been tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. Eastern (2100 GMT) on Wednesday.

On January 8, an apparently deranged lone gunman went on a rampage during an outdoor public meeting that Giffords was holding with constituents. Six people were killed in the shooting, including a nine-year-old girl.
