Hollywood, Fla., has given the Holocaust Documentation Center 90 days to make good its bills before the city begins foreclosure proceedings.
City officials say the center owes Hollywood’s Community Redevelopment Agency $200,000 in loan payments after not meeting its $16,000 monthly rent for years,
The Miami Herald reported Thursday.
The Hollywood City Commission was ready to begin foreclosure, but agreed Wednesday to give the center more time to find outside financing.
“I don’t think going to foreclosure is going to help either side,” said Commissioner Linda Sherwood.
Harry “Hap” Levy, the chairman of the Holocaust center’s board, said the center would use the delay to try to work out some sort of deal.
“It’s still like the death penalty,” he said.
