Actor Harrison Ford nearly hit a 737 with his private airplane when he landed on a taxiway instead of a runway, an incident that prompted an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, NBC News reports.
Ford, 74, was told to land his single-engine Husky plane on runway 20-L at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., but accidentally aimed for a taxiway, passing over an American Airlines plane with 110 passengers and six crew members.
On air traffic control recordings, Ford asks, "Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?"
FAA rules prohibit landing on a taxiway, which runs parallel to a runway. The violation could result in a suspension of Ford’s license. The FAA said Ford was given the correct landing instructions and that he read them back to them, NBC News reports.
Ford was injured in 2015 when he crashed his vintage plane onto a California golf course, an accident caused by a power failure. He also crash-landed a helicopter in 1999 during a training flight with an instructor according to an Associated Press report.
