Apparently, pleasing the new vice president is in vogue.
American Vogue, which showed different photos of Vice President Kamala Harris for its February print and digital covers, decided to change the print cover for a limited run after being criticized by Harris' team, per Breitbart on Wednesday.
When it was released, Vogue's print edition featured Harris in a pair of skinny pants and Converse sneakers. The digital version showed an official White House photo with Harris in a powder blue suit.
Apparently, Harris believed the digital cover was supposed to be the print cover.
Soon after the issues were released, Harris' team accused Vogue editors of allegedly changing the print edition cover photo without informing the newly sworn in vice president.
Fashion critics and social media users blasted the sneakers photo. Some said it appeared poorly lit, and others suggested it was "disrespectful" to the vice president-elect, per CNN.
Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour defended the choice of featuring Harris in the sneakers that she often wore on the campaign trail.
"When the two images arrived at Vogue, all of us felt very, very strongly that the less formal portrait of the vice-president-elect really reflected the moment that we were living in," Wintour said, "which we are in the midst -- as we still are -- of the most appalling pandemic that is taking lives by the minute.
"And we felt to reflect this tragic moment in global history, a much less formal picture — something that was very, very accessible, and approachable and real -- really reflected the hallmark of the Biden-Harris campaign and everything that they are trying to and, I'm sure, will achieve."
Vogue announced it would feature the blue-suit cover in a limited print edition for President Joe Biden's inauguration and it only would be made available in the U.S.
"In recognition of the enormous interest in the digital cover and in celebration of this historic moment, we will be publishing a limited number of special edition inauguration issues," a statement from Vogue read.
