Wealthy residents in the Hamptons in New York are paying as much as $1,000 for medical firms to come to their homes to administer tests for COVID-19 and antibodies.
The firms charge membership fees in the thousands of dollars, Page Six is reporting. And while the tests are free, they come with a $1,000 house call fee.
Page Six sources say people in “space suits” come to homes in the area to administer the tests. And they say the demand “has been so intense that people are happy to pay” exorbitantly.
Sources say the demand for the concierge testing has increased because people do want to risk going to medical facilities. One source said that “during the early days, when testing was scarce, some people were paying...services $5,000 for a test.”
Meanwhile, the Miami Herald reported earlier this month that all residents and staff of Fisher Island, the richest zip code in the country, will be able to receive a coronavirus antibody test if they want one.
The newspaper said the private island, located off the coast of Miami, spent $30,600 to purchase 1,800 blood test that cost $17 each.
