The FBI processed more than 2.2 million gun background checks in November, a record number fueled by Black Friday sales that extended the number into a seventh straight month.
The agency processed 2,243,030 checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System last month, up by 236,111 checks over the previous record set in 2012,

Background checks have set monthly records since May, the Free Beacon reports.
So far this year, the FBI has processed 19,827,376 gun background checks. Last year, the number was 20,968,547.
The record for background checks was set in 2013, with 21,093,273 being performed.
The November figures were helped by
record sales on Black Friday. That day, 185,345 background checks — roughly two per second — were completed, down 5 percent from the day after Thanksgiving last year, the FBI said.
Firearms transactions completed through licensed gun dealers, including all new-gun purchases, require a background check, the Free Beacon reports.
However, federal law and most states do not require a background check on sales of used guns between private parties.
Some states also perform FBI background checks on those who apply for gun carry permits, according to the report.
