The coronavirus, which has infected several staffers connected to President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence over the past several weeks, has reportedly struck Kim Guilfoyle, a top Trump campaign official who's close to the first family inner circle as Donald Trump Jr.'s girlfriend, a New York Times reporter tweeted Friday night.
Maggie Haberman, White House correspondent, had this to say in her tweet, which appeared close to an hour before Trump was to take the stage at Mount Rushmore for an Independence Day weekend celebration: "Kim Guilfoyle, girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr. and a top campaign official, tested positive for coronavirus in SD ahead of attending Mt Rushmore event, according to a person familiar w what happened. She was never was with POTUS, and neither was Don Jr., who tested negative."
Guilfoyle is Trump 2020 campaign senior adviser.
Guilfoyle traveled to South Dakota with Donald Trump Jr. to attend a huge fireworks display where the president spoke. They didn’t travel on Air Force One, according to a person quoted by the Times, and she was the only person in the group who tested positive, the paper said.
Those who come in close contact with the president are screened for the virus as protection, the paper said, adding that Guilfoyle is the third person in possible proximity to him known to have contracted the virus. She wasn’t experiencing symptoms, and along with Donald Trump Jr., never met up with the president’s entourage, the person said. The couple plans to drive back from South Dakota to the East Coast, the person said.
