The site near Ground Zero in New York City where a controversial plan to build a mosque was averted five years ago will now be the home to luxury condominiums, the Crain's New York reports.

The developer now plans a 70-story residential skyscraper on the site, just two blocks north of the World Trade Center Twin Towers once stood.

"The tower is going to be a market-maker," developer Sharif El-Gamal said. "We’ve perfected a building that’s really going to share in a unique moment."

Manhattan is experiencing a condo boom, and the median price of apartments in the area this year was $1.15 million, which is a 6.4 percent increase over 2015.

The building is expected to be finished in 2017.
