Rep. Gowdy: Obama Adviser a 'Self-Serving, Political Hack'

By    |   Wednesday, 24 July 2013 12:55 PM EDT

Rep. Trey Gowdy called presidential adviser Dan Pfeiffer a "self-serving, political hack" at a hearing Tuesday on whether children of illegal immigrants deserve a path of citizenship.

The South Carolina Republican made his comments after listening to two young women who had earlier testified that a pathway to citizenship eventually would allow them to be reunited with deported family members, The Washington Times reported.

Gowdy described the witnesses as "persuasive" in their arguments and added that they came to the issue with nuance. But he drew a contrast to the approach of Pfeiffer, who had sent out a tweet linking to a Spanish-language editorial critical of House Republican immigration plan that would offer a pathway to citizenship only to children who were brought to the United States illegally.

"La Opinion nails the cruel hypocrisy of the GOP immigration plan: allow some kids to stay but deport their parents," Pfeiffer wrote on his official White House Twitter account.

"He summarized this entire debate with that tweet," Gowdy told the two witnesses.

"So I want to compliment you and thank you for not being a demagogic, self-serving, political hack who can't even be elected to a parent advisory committee, much less Congress, which Pfeiffer is."
