At least 16 GOP legislators have turned down the insurance. Freshman Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland is one of them. He drew flak from Democrats for initially complaining about having to wait to receive his federal health insurance plan.
"The comment was just a tongue-in-cheek comment about the federal government's efficiency at delivering a healthcare . . . insurance product," he told Gannett Tuesday. "Even at that time, I was leaning toward keeping my insurance. There was no reason for me not to." Harris is indeed retaining his BlueCross/BlueShield coverage.
