GOP Reps. Harris, Broun: EPA Uses 'Press Release Science' to Bolster Agenda

Wednesday, 16 November 2011 10:45 AM EST

The Environmental Protection Agency is using “press release science” in place of real science to bolster its agendas, allege Republican Reps. Andy Harris of Maryland and Paul Broun of Georgia, according to DailyCaller.com.

Among the lawmakers’ concerns is EPA official Lisa Jackson’s claim to the House Energy Committee in September that, “if we could reduce particulate matter to healthy levels, it would have the same impact as finding a cure for cancer,” a statement that Harris and Broun say is “baseless and unsupported by science.”

The pair, who sit on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, have asked White House administrator Cass Sunstein to look at a handful of examples of the EPA’s allegedly using scientific data that “test credibility” to support Clean Air Act regulations.

“In many cases, these required cost-benefit analyses appear designed to provide political cover for a more stringent regulatory agenda rather than objectively inform policy decisions,” the lawmakers wrote to Sunstein.
