Va. Rep. Goodlatte: King Comments 'Innapropriate'

On Thursday, Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., added his voice to the growing list of colleagues who have rebuked controversial comments from Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, on immigration, reports Politico.

In an interview with Telemundo scheduled to air Sunday, Goodlatte called King’s remarks “inappropriate” and said they were “unkind” and “not accurate.”

King suggested last week in a Newsmax interview that children of undocumented immigrants were being used as drug mules.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, also condemned King’s comments Thursday.

“It is not helpful,” Goodlatte said in the interview.

“It is inappropriate, it does not help the discussion, it’s not accurate, and there are ways to have a discussion about the legitimate policy issues without saying things that are unkind.

And I hope we can get back to doing that.”

Earlier this week, Goodlatte suggested that he might be supportive of a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. He doubled down on the idea in the interview, but said border security would have to come first.
