The media misread the recent remarks of Pope Francis in which he appeared to be more accepting of gays by asking "Who am I to judge?" the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Chicago says.
"He wasn’t saying we can’t judge that homosexual relations are sinful or not. Objectively, they are," Cardinal Francis George told columnist Mark Brown of the
Chicago Sun Times.

"In our culture, 'Who am I to judge' means nobody has the right to distinguish right from wrong," which is not what the pope meant, George continued.
"He was saying that a person who has given up their sinful ways, you don’t judge them. You accept them . . . He started out saying: gay sex is wrong."
George also expressed frustration that Catholics can’t express their opposition to same-sex marriage without being seen as bigots, according to Brown.
"When that becomes the criterion for accepting gay and lesbian people, then we’re in the bind we’re in now, which is a real bind," George said.
