Five students at the University of Tampa who went on a spring break trip together recently tested positive for the coronavirus, UT announced over the weekend.
“UT has been notified that five UT students, traveling together and with other UT students during Spring Break, have tested positive for COVID-19,” the university said . “We sincerely wish our students, and any others who may be affected, a full and rapid recovery.”
The university did not give the names of the students, nor where they traveled, according to The Hill.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had pleaded with students enjoying spring break in the state to be more vigilant in adhering to guidelines from health experts in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Other colleges in the state - including the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and the University of Florida - have also made similar announcements of students contracting the coronavirus, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
There have been at least 13 deaths from the coronavirus and more than 1,000 cases recorded in the state, according to the Florida Department of Health.
