First Lady Michelle Obama made a pre-Christmas visit to the Children's National Medical Center in Washington Monday, where she spent some private time with the young patients and read the holiday classic, "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
According to The Hill, the
first lady even fielded some questions from one group of children.
"I don't take questions from the press," she told them. "They will tell you that. I only take questions from you guys once a year here."
Then she took 14 queries ranging from dolls and pets to Christmas gifts and favorite songs.
There were these revelations. Her favorite gift growing up was something Barbie-related.
"I loved Barbie dolls and I had everything Barbie," she said.
Obama also told the children that when she turns 50 on Jan. 17 she would like to have a party that includes lots of dancing.
And the big news: President Barack Obama will get workout clothes for Christmas.
"He said that's what he wanted. Don't think — I'm not forcing my husband to work out," she said.
Daughter Malia, 15, already got her gift — prematurely — when the president gave her a cell phone, the first lady revealed. But older daughter Sasha's gift remains a mystery.
The first lady was accompanied to the hospital by White House dogs Bo and Sunny, who can expect to have chew toys under the tree Christmas morning.
First Ladies have been coming to the hospital at Christmas time since Bess Truman began the tradition.
The entire First Family had earlier attended
the 32nd annual "Christmas in Washington" benefit concert for the Children's National Health System, The Daily News reported.
The concert is scheduled to be broadcast Friday evening on TNT.
