Anderson Cooper wasn't the only person to come out on Monday. Facebook rolled out new same-sex marriage icons, allowing users to declare wedlock with dual grooms or brides on their timelines.
The move follows a similar one from Apple, which unveiled new same-sex emojis - those pictorial icons of everything from Union Jacks to feces to hand-holding couples.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation noted in a blog post that Facebook - the first social media company to win a GLAAD media award - has long been a supporter of gay equality, unveiling last year options to list a user's relationship status as "In a Civil Union" or "In a Domestic Partnership."
