The results of a poll released Monday show that more than half of Americans believe the United States should stop providing any and all aid to Egypt due to the escalation violence and unrest in the country,
Politico reports.
According to a survey from the Pew Research Center, 51 percent of those polled said cutting off aid as a way to put pressure on the Egyptian government would be the best approach for the U.S. to take.

Twenty-six percent said the most effective way to influence the situation was a continuance of aid.
When asked if President Barack Obama has been tough enough in his dealings with Egypt, 50 percent said no, 6 percent believed he was too tough, 12 percent found his actions to be about right and 32 percent said they did not know.
When asked their opinion on what group would best guide Egypt in the future, 46 percent of respondents said the country’s military, 11 percent said the Muslim Brotherhood and 19 percent felt both groups fell short in that area.
The poll included 1,000 adults in the United States and was conducted from Aug. 15-18, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
