Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez has named Jessica O’Connell to head up party operations as the new CEO, Buzzfeed reported.
O’Connell was recently the executive director of Emily’s List, an organization that works to recruit and elect women who are pro-choice. She was director of operations for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, Buzzfeed reported.
The new hire is part of a reorganization plan to make the DNC more helpful to Democratic candidates in upcoming elections and activist groups who oppose Donald Trump’s presidency, Buzzfeed reported.
Plans include training for activists, mobilization for grassroots activism, installation of surrogates to make media appearances, and collaborating better with members of Congress and campaign committees, sources told Buzzfeed.
Without the Obama and Biden families in the White House, the DNC is looking for new donors and additional fundraising power, the Buzzfeed report said.
Perez said that O’Connell’s experience would help Democrats as they prepare “for critical elections in 2017, 2018, and beyond.”
The Democratic Party sent a tweet Friday welcoming O’Connell.
